Hey guys,

I'm looking to upgrade the graphic card of my HP computer. He dates from 2008 so it wouldn't be so bad to do it.. but I never did this kind of thing...

My question, is the 10$ between the card is really worth it? After reading the review on the website, I'm even more hesitant haha.

And would it be better to go with Gigabyte or Sapphire or xfx? What would be the wisest choice?

I'm trying to make Guild Wars 2 work on medium setting to play with friends.

Here are the spec of the computer:

AMD athlon 64 x2 5050e
MS-7548 Aspen motherboard
4096 mb of RAM
Integrated Ati radeon 3200 HD <--- Will I be able to change the graphic card if it is integrated?
Computer model HP a6745f

Thanks for your time, really appreciated guys :)

I'm a total noob when it comes to this haha

The mb you have has a pcie x16 slot which you can use to plug in the 6670

The 6670 is the better option and most of the brands are similar
The 6570 is a downclocked version of the 6670

So can you "overclock" the 6570 (without breaking anything) to get the performance of the 6670?

Thanks a lot, really awesome to have a fast answer like this.

post your psu wattage and brand too. if its below 300w then it might be trouble as that will shorten the life span of your gpu if it runs at all.

The 6670 uses about 50W at load + CPU and stuffs should be pretty good, PSU on the HP systems should be fine

The 6570 can OC to the 6670 level but not all cards will OC that far, its all on luck :p

Aw I see! Nice, thanks!

My power supply is a 300w.

Would that be any problem?

Does it show the amperage for each voltage on its side?

The most important rail is the 12v one

You should be fine on the 300W PSU. A new decent quality unit would cost about 30 USD

What will tell me if the PSU isn't powerful enough for the card? Will it just stop or.. ?

And for the brand, they are mostly the same or what should I look for? I think I'll go with Gigabyte as the price is a bit lower... hum...

Thanks a ton again, this is niceeee :D

It can just throttle itself. Or the PSU will burn out trying to give enough power (potentially killing everything connected to it. Or the PSU will die quickly trying to give the power needed.

Most of the brands are pretty good

Seems like the manufacturer suggest 400w... doh.

Should I take the chance? Hahaha, dilemma.

The suggestions are merely a guideline that is very safe

You can run the 6670 on a 300W PSU if it is quality and has enough 12v rail.

Keep in mind that old PSU's degrade with time and can output less and less power as they age

What PSU could I put in my computer then? Will they all fit in?

My current PSU has 5 years of life so maybe a 25-30 dollar investment could help a bit...

And other than the HD 6670, if I get a better PSU, what card under 100$ would be better than this one?

Maybe I should just save a bit more and upgrade these two things at once and not do it in some weird way like I am currently planning to do haha.

Thanks a lot stickmansam, you are epic!

The CX430 for $30 after MIR is a good choice

Almost all PSU's are compatible with most cases and motherboards

Under $100 there is the $80 7750 and the $90-$95 7770

Thanks! :p

Hey StickmanSam, I bought the CX430 with the HD 7750 and an anti static wrist band haha :)

I'll give you some input as to how it is going with the installation and improvement after it is done.

Btw, can I change the power supply and the graphic card all in one go?

Or should I put the power supply in, be sure it is working properly, and then put the graphic card in?

Thanks again, this is awesome.

With the mail in rebate, it was worth it!

75$ for the hd 7750 and well, 35 for the CX430 with all rebate applied. Let's just hope the mail in rebate will work, never done that before, but it seems legit in some ways.

Thanks!

Yeah you can change it in one go but best to change PSU first, confirm that it is working then put in GPU and confirm that is working

MIR's are usually pretty good as long as you give them all the info. Corsair is good with theirs, dunno about the brand for the 7750 so can't tell :p
