[strike]I have a 2mb/s download Speed which is about 220KB/s. When i download something, It first downloads at 220KB/s but after a while it reduces to 80KB/s and just gets stuck there! The only thing to fix this is to restart my computer but even after that, it the problem reappears within 5-10mins of use... Do you know how i can fix this?[/strike]

2mbps is 250KBps. Run a speedtest at speedtest.net to check your speeds. Downloading a file from the web is not a good speed benchmark. If you still have a problem explain your setup in more detail and remember regular residential internet bandwidth is not guaranteed.

Im getting 86KB/s download but its supposed to be 250 as you said! If i reboot my system the problem gets fixed but as soon as i download any file, the speed reduces!

Also be sure you are communicating on a non-congested WLAN channel. Please download InSSIDer for your WLAN client and from there you will get to see who is using what channel and you can from there, configure your router to use one that nobody else is using.

I have 3 computers that use that router but not all at the same time... One is used at night, mine is used all day and the other is occasionally used (maybe 5-10 times a day, browsing the net)

As far as WLAN congestion is concerned it would mean that a neighbor's router could be interfering with yours. To do this please change your router's channel to one that is not being used by neighbors.

Also you may want to configure the QoS feature in your router to make sure you have enough bandwidth as well.

What router do you have?

InSSIDer can be downloaded here: http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider/

Then you would install it>open it>see what channels are being used>then proceed to the following step:

log into your router's administration panel. Typically accessed by typing in something like 192.168.1.1 or setup.router.com or whatever.

Generally it's in an area like Wireless settings>2.4Ghz Settings>Basic settings> then should have a section called "channel">Change it to something the neighbors aren't using>apply

it varies from router to router so this was a general guide.

None of my neighbors are using the same channel. But I have 4 routers at home... My main router is the WRG614 but i have an extender for that. I have a backup router operating on a different service and there is a vonage router connected on that! (I kno, complicated) They are all on the same channel. Should i change the channel even though its my routers?

Out of my two computers, I get .98mB/s and my sister gets 1.10mB/s...
The speed is being split between us two! at all times! Is this normal?

And i have another problem... I cant get into 192.168.1.1 as it asks for username and password. On the back of the router, the username and password is listed, If i enter those nothing happens. The password screen goes away for 2secs and comes back...

I would recommend leaving the channels alone if you have any devices repeating off them...

For example if you have the router operating on channel 9 leave the repeater on that channel. If you have an access point that can be set to another channel without harm.

However your backup router that's on the different service (assuming it's connected to another cable or DSL connection seperate from the one the WGR614 is attached to) can be set to a different channel without affecting the network as long as a repeater is not connected to that one. In that case have your backup to a different channel configured then your main router +repeater

so just set your router (wgr614) and repeater to a non-congested channel that no other devices are using and that should be good.

However it would be easier to just change the backup router becuase if you change channels on your WGR 614 the repeater will need to be reconfigured again.

How do i do a hardware reset? I called over a networking guy and he kind of changed everything so nothing is 'default'. If nothing works, i will call him over to try to fix this problem...

there should be a little reset button somewhere near the ports and power button.

not unless your networking guy configured it to something like 192.168.0.1 or 10.0.0.1 try those before you hardware reset

I did i hardware reset and changed the channel. nothing worked :(

I tried a Asus USB network adapter and the speed was 2mbps but about 5mins later it was back to slow 50-100kBps!
I thought it was a virus or something but this is happening to only 1 service provider. My backup is working fine. My backup is 512kbps down...

what do i do? im stuck here! HELP!
