i have damaged the audio-out on my laptop, to avoid costly/potentially disastrous motherboard soldering i'd rather retask the mic-in than replace the port. the VIA HD audio Deck installed on my laptop doesn not offer this functionality, but i know that realtek audio manager often does. i don't really understand the information that device manager and msinfo give me - it seems to just list driver info rather than hardware model numbers.

my questions:

1> how do i determine physical soundcard info?

2> can the realtek audio manager be used with non-realtek cards? i know that the actual drivers need to be card specific, but can the manager software talk to other manufacturer's drivers?

3> is there another way to retask my mic-in?

thanks!

Solution

The retasking of ports has to be supported by the hardware first and so far only realtek does that.
