BSOD madness after installing extra RAM

I was soooo happy when my 8GB of extra RAM arrived today, but after installing BSOD's have been occuring either during startup or after no longer than 10 mins of running.

The main BSOD that occurs is:

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR _EQUAL

Just once I got:

SYSTEM SERVICE EXEPTION

Was working in Safe Mode and posting here, seemed to be fine until I let Crucial Scanner check my RAM to get the specs for the old RAM. BSOD happened in safe mode (IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL). Just removed the new RAM and seem to be stable again.

System:

AMD PHENOMII X4 955 (3,19 GHz)
CRUCIAL M4 265GB SSD (BOOT)
Seagate 550GB HDD (STORE)
ASROCK M3A785GXH/128M
ATI RADEON HD4890 1GB GDDR5
Previously installed: 4GB of RAM DDR3 (PC3-10600)
Added 8GB - CORSAIR VENGEANCE (2x4GB) DDR3 1600MHz CL9

Running Win7 ULTIMATE x64 SP1

So I guess the old and new RAM are not playing nice together.

I will try and see what happens when I use only the new RAM or switch the positions of the old and the new set and post the results, in the meantime, does anyone see any obvious problem/solution?

Thanks a bunch

I've considered this but need some more convincing I guess, beside not being a fan of mixing RAM, pro's and con's for 12GB @ 1333 VS 8GB @ 1600?

I've been running both options without BSOD's, put the corsair's in the old RAM's positions, ran it as 8GB for 2 hours, NP. Now added the 4GB about half an hour ago, no BSOD's so far. I would really like to know why this position matters so much, apparantly.

Cheers

Sooo, you're saying I can use the 2x2GB 1333MHz and the 2x4GB 1600 MHz together without everything running at 1333 MHz? That would be awesome, but I don't get the explanation of how I would do it.
