Does the AsRock 970 Extreme4 support the FX6300 out of the box?

Hi - I'm looking for a motherboard to go with my new PC build, which contains an FX6300 and a 650 Ti Boost. I'm looking to OC the 6300 to 4.0ghz per core, which I'm told can be done with the stock fan.

So, my question is, does the AsRock 970 Extreme4 support the FX6300 out of the box with no BIOS update, and how does it OC (only a very small amount).

If it doesn't satisfy these conditions, can you recommend a fairly priced mobo that can SLI, OC a small amount and support the 6300 out of the box?

Thanks :)

  1. It depends on the manufacture date. However, the BIOS chip is on socket and can be easily replaced, in case the BIOS version is old and does not support the 6300.

    or similar.
  2. Sorry I'm fairly new to building PCs - does the BIOS chip have to be especially designed for the motherboard or are there generic "vishera bios chips" that you can just buy anywhere?
  3. They have to be programmed with a board compatible BIOS and of course to match the original chip specs:
