Hi,
I am in need of help trying to upgrade my HP Pavilion a6712f desktop pc- it's not going so well as per the web site says it "supports PCI Express x16 graphics cards" however when I go to check via Device Manager it only shows as "PCI bus" no, 2.0 no x16 or such. So I think I've confused myself lol >.< also below is pic link for the specs' of my machine. I do not plan to spend 400 bucks on a graphic card (maybe up to 150.00 range) but, I really do not want to go the extra mile of having to replace the power supply unless absolutely having to.. which is 250w as well. below the picture is link to HP's site in which the information was used for comparison.

Also as well any suggestions for type of graphic cards would be up-most appreciated. I play Wow and Aion and with integrated graphics.. the monsters are well...Invisible or are wire framed, I will check back tonight as I have to go to work

Hi horriblewithpc,

your computer specs state that you have a 250 watt power supply. Unfortunately There is not much for graphics that is worth the upgrade at 250 watts. But for 150 dollars i do believe you can still do a upgrade if you feel comfortable changing the power supply. I know you said you do not want to have to. But, really its not as hard as you think it will be the only way for you to get a little better performance.

So here is my suggestion for you. Buy this Power supply, 29.99 after rebate. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139026&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

Use this video as a reference on reinstalling the new power supply.

Here is a written guide.

Then i would buy a HD Radeon 7770, here.
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B008NHK9T4/?tag=pcpapi-20

$40 dollars for PSU and $114.00 for GPU is $154 - $10 rebate (if you want to send it in) keeps you under your 150 budget. And will be an excellent improvement on your integrated graphics.

I wouldnt recommend putting the 7750 with a 250 w PSU. I agree it is low power consumption. 300 watts is in most cases ok. If it is not complete garbage of a psu. But 250watts is just...really iffy.
