Cold boot freeze / BSOD machine_check_exception

Hi,

I have a custom built machine that works ok except for the following

On a cold boot the machine will near enough always freeze at some point in the first few minutes of use - often at login screen or sometimes later on once windows is loaded

Every now and then instead of a freeze I will get a BSOD machine_check_exception and will have to restart.

I've replugged in various bits of hardware and no fix. The machine has the lastest BIOS version and is not overclocked (was in the past but i turned overclock off to help me fix this issue)

How do I easily fix the problem or diagnose the cause at least. Is there a way of getting diagnostic info from the processor?

Could it be to do with unbalanced rails on my power supply? Though actually I deliberately only have the graphics on one rail and everything else on the other.

Oldest piece of kit in the system is the PCI graphics card - could this be a problem?

I've been putting off sorting this for too long but feel i need to get it out of the way.

Any constructive help and support while I look into this greatly appreciated.

thanks

thanks for your help.

How do I go about monitoring temperatures and voltages? Is there something in BIOS that helps with this?

I need to run memtest tonight but other short memory tests dont indicate any problems

Speedfan and OpenHardwareMonitor indicate that my temperatures are fine (most components between 35 and 45 degrees C)

What should I look out for when monitoring my voltages and temps? See below for an OpenHardWareMonitor screenshot

Which drivers should I be looking to update? The gigabyte site offers a few that I'm not sure are relevant to me (ie RAID drivers, Intel INF etc). should I get all of the ones on offer?

checked the motherboard and everything seems to be firmly connected ok.

thanks for your help so far.
