Info about hard drive compressing

I have 2 drives, 1 drive i have windows installed and another drive i have installed games on. The hard drive is beginning to become full, and i was wanting to know about what disk compression is, and if i compressed my disk, would i be able to play games still? I have done defragment on both disks. Both disks are HDDs 7200rpm 32mb cache. I don't need to free up space, i'm interested in disk compression, on the grounds i can still play games.

  1. I wouldn't just get bigger drive.
  2. alot depends on the cpu you have. Compressing and uncompressing the data on the fly will definitely slow you down but how bad depends on how demanding the app is and how powerfull your processor is.
  3. Are you suggesting compressing data will make it hard to run games, is it because the hard drive has to decompress the data everytime you play, it adds extra work?
  4. does operating system also effect the amount of space that a game takes up, would there be any difference between vista, and 7 in terms of how much space is required to store a game?
