gtx 680 300% power spike causing crashes

like the title says guys, no idea why my msi gtx 680 is power spiking all the way up to 300- 305%. but every time it does, i get a driver crash which is getting extremely annoying. im only using a mild oc of +80/ +300, however it crashes basically anywhere other than at stock settings..

  1. The crashing is your video card trying to tell you that the OC is too much.
  2. +80 is too much? most ppl are at +150 to +200..
  3. Your overclock isn't stable... Try different settings or stay stock (the 680 will run everything fine anyway)

With OC'ing YMMV which is why it should never be used as a reason to buy any particular piece of kit.

+1 Oc isn't a good reference as every card is different, some will reach 1400, other will be stuck at 1100 orcan't even overclock...

PS: I've seen ASUS block OC on their low end by directly block the BIOS on the GPU (560ti OC= 940mhz max vs TOP 1000mhz+)... Maybe they all do this now...
  6. at +80 it sits at 1215. so you suggest continue to lower the oc until it stops crashing?

im sorry i guess i just dont understand why it power spikes up to 300%? i ran run it at 1300mhz until that power spike comes...
  7. maybe that'll work at higher and lower frequencies, did you touch the voltage ?? I'm at arround 1300 boost without any Vcore adjust...
  8. ive messed with the voltage, but it never changes. its locked at 1.175 no matter if i have it stock or maxed out.
  9. Thats because 1.175 is as high as the BIOS allows.
  10. but what would cause it to spike to 300%?

instability, the card crash and the GPU maybe go to 50mhz before and the programs read 300% of 50mhz as it was at 1000+mhz before...
