Would a lower end quaddro card be better than a midrange gaming card

You need to be more specific on what software you want to use it for.

Professional video cards are designed to perform professional applications, so unless you also want to play games, a professional card would better suit you. Enthusiast cards will work, but are not designed for what you plan to do.

If you're gaming, a quadro card is going to be nigh-useless.

If you're working with photoshop, I might consider a Radeon HD card, as they have very good computational abilities - but if you can afford it, I would still recommend a workstation class card.

For Adobe software, your 470 GTX is a great card. A pro card is really geared towards engineering, but work well for Adobe software and can still game. So, again, what software are you planning to use?
