I purchased it september last year. After one month, the power cord got pulled out slightly off the psu and i could a few sparks as well coming from the psu(the spot where the cable goes in). I phoned to get them to replace it, and the new one they brought had the same problem the moment the power cord gets plugged into the psu. Then I got a 3rd one in october which just died last week. Could this indicate a problem with my power outlet?

I would first suspect sub-par PSU's. You should however have a surge protector bar plugged into your wall outlet, and the PSU plugged into that. It's just a safer setup. After that though, I'd replace the PSU with a better quality brand. Start shopping around for one, either online or somewhere local to you( www.pcpartpicker.com ) and reference this: http://www.eggxpert.com/forums/thread/323050.aspx . It's a great resource for general quality of PSU's, with a link to a great database for PSU reviews.
