Hey guys I'm selling my 670 ftw and getting an asus directcuii, and in the future a 2nd on for sli, I have two cards that I've found on amazon but am extremely confused as to what the diffrence between the 2 is, other than one is more expensive than the other. Naturally when I need expert opinions on all matters computer related I come to Tom's :)

The first card is $409
http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-GDDR5-Graphics-Card-GTX670-DC2OG-2GD5/dp/B009TORUOM/ref=br_lf_m_1001029511_4_49_ttl?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&s=pc&pf_rd_p=1523043122&pf_rd_s=center-4&pf_rd_t=1401&pf_rd_i=1001029511&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1QHDYDYS6WKZE5AX0MVW

The second is $394
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0081IFO2C/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Is the first one worth the extra $15? I'm on somewhat of a budget and that extra 15 would contribute to a nice new case :p

Thanks for the help!

Here's my build:

Intel Core i7-3770k
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus - dual fan configuration
EVGA GeForce GTX 670 FTW
Asrock Z77 Extreme4-M
Crucial M4 256GB SSD

Huh ? I never heard of such a thing. I have two boxes here, one with twin 560 Ti's and a 28% overclock and one with twin 670's with a 27% overclock.

Look at the performance differences between the 670 and the 670 TOP

Nothing apart form the first one being temporarily out of stock as well as including a Diablo 3 themed mousepad.

Get the cheapest. There are no differences to worry about.

As always, if my answer has helped please consider selecting it as the solution. Thanks :)

There is a diffrence between the two cards .... The OG is the apparent replacement for the TOP line and is factory overclocked using a hand picked GPU.

TOP-selected 1058MHz core -78MHz higher than reference for smoother gameplay

The GTX670-DC2OG-2GD5 has these stats
Core Clock: 980MHz
Boost Clock: 1058MHz
Memory: 6008 MHz
http://ph.asus.com/Graphics_Cards/NVIDIA_Series/GTX670DC2OG2GD5/#specifications

The GTX670-DC2-2GD5 has these stats
Core Clock: 915MHz
Boost Clock: 980MHz
Memory: 6008 MHz

To my mind, for the $10, the factory OC'd hand picked GPU is well worth it even if the factory OC isn't quite as high as the original TOP version.

Here's some reviews on the old TOP designate cards:

Overall the ASUS GTX 670 Direct CU II is the best card I ever tested.

Original This sample Overclocked
Core Clock: 915 MHz Core Core Clock: 1058 MHz Core Clock: +50 MHz
Boost Clock: 980 MHz Boost Clock: 1137 MHz Boost Clock: ~1280 MHz
Memory Clock: 6008 MHz Memory Clock: 6008 MHz Mem Clock: +475 MHz = 6958 MHZ

Would you then reccomend I spend the extra money on the top card? I've heard very good reviews about the top line

I don't see any important differences.

@OP You can OC if you want, but if you're thinking of SLI, then I guess you don't have to worry about it much as SLI limits how high the core clock can go.

I'm planning on doing sli a few years down the road, but will sli limit the factory oc'd speed too?

Yes, but not by much. You'll get a ton of performance SLI-ing anyway that you won't be needing to overclock.

So really, the top line doesn't offer anything extra other than factory overclocking?

That's was a 9% performance advantage "guaranteed" outta the box.....not to mention the hand picked GPU being able to take a larger manual OC after you get at it.

http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/asus_geforce_gtx_670_directcu_ii_top_review,23.html

Asus 670 TOP Overclocked = 9839 3D Mark score
Asus 670 TOP "outta the box" = 9340 3D Mark score
Stock 670 = 8455 3D mark Score

The stock TOP version got 10% more speed outta the box 16% more manually OC'd.

@OP I would think so.

@JackNaylorPE
Sorry for not clarifying (or choosing the right words for that matter), but the chances of both GPUs being able to over clock to the same level is reduced. Therefore say, one GPU1 can overclock 20%. GPU2 25%. The overclock will be limited to GPU1.

Thanks to both of you, I'll be getting the top version, I can sell the mousepad that comes with it and then the price will be +/- $10 extra, not a bad premium for a premium card :D Thanks again guys!

That is exactly why I consider the factory guarantee on the OC worth the $10. I always back off a bit anyway..... whereas the TOP's can typically hit a 30% OC, I back down to 25-28 on most builds for some extra thermal room and even 20-25 sometimes (that guys who ya know will never blow the dust outta his case .... or any teenager :) ) depending on the user's knowledge and experience.

And yes, I always test both cards for max OS individually and put the one that goes higher on the top (experiences more heat). Largest difference I have seen was 4% but that card went back for a noisy fan. The replacement matched the 1st card.
