i have ordered windows 7 premium and disappointingly i now find out that windows pro upgrade is more than i paid for the premium and in most cases more expensive than buying a full version of pro

the only reason i would need to upgrade is to use GIS software (which i found out after purchase)

specifically ArcGIS Explorer

System requirements -

i have found a site that offers a full pro version (oem) for the same price/less than i paid for premium (oem)

i guess i wanted confirmation that the GIS wont work on the premium, if any one uses GIS software do you have any recommendations for win7 prem users please.

or does it look like i'm screwed and will have to buy pro

thanks for your time

regards

alex

I would say that you need the Pro version.

System Requirements

ArcGIS Explorer Desktop is supported on the following platforms:

Windows 2003 Server Standard, Enterprise, and Datacenter (32-bit and 64-bit [EM64T])
Windows 2008 Server Standard, Enterprise, and Datacenter (32-bit and 64-bit [EM64T])
Windows 2008 R2 Server Standard, Enterprise, and Datacenter (64-bit [EM64T])
Windows 7 Ultimate, Professional Edition (32-bit and 64-bit [EM64T])
Windows 8 Basic, Professional, and Enterprise (32-bit and 64-bit [EM64T])
Windows Server 2012
Windows Vista Ultimate, Enterprise, Business (32-bit and 64-bit [EM64T])
Windows XP Professional Edition (32-bit)
Windows XP Professional Edition (64-bit [EM64T])

Additional Software Requirements

Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 is required.

Also, I don't think you should have to reinstall. You should be able to select the "in place upgrade" and just enter your new license key.

thanks for responding,

so if i, bought the windows 7 pro (full version) i found thats cheaper than the upgrade, are you saying it should be possible to upgrade my premium edition even if they are both OEM without uninstalling, is it just a case of backing up the drive my O.S. is stored on for security ( i should probably do this any way) and then inserting the disc and following the upgrade instructions
