Waiting for Richland?

I was about to build a new PC using an A10 5800k. However with Richland round the corner I can afford to wait. So time to gauge some opinions. Suggestions welcome.

This will be a general home PC capable of lite gaming, media streaming and office. Currently I only play WOT and multiple clients on Eve Online. My current Phenom II 550/HD5830 copes with all setting maxed out at 1980x1200 so I know I can keep it cheap.

The plan was to build based on the A10 and see if I can get away without using the existing GPU (save on power and noise). If gaming was an issue I was simply going to install my existing HD5830. I considered an FX6300 but this would commit me to a separate GPU for what seems like little benefit in the CPU.

The rest of the build will be similarly non flashy. 8 GB Ram, Quiet and discrete case possibly Fractal Design R4 or Cooler Master Silencio. About £80 to spend on the MB (If i'm not planning to Overclock should I pick up a £50-£60 board?). I will reuse my power, SSD and HDD as they are both new.

I would not rule out Intel, I recently built my daugher an i3 ITX machine. I chose the i3 for the low TDP. However the cheapest i5's dont seem to offer much over AMD at the moment.

Thoughts?

If the intent is to attempt to play games without a dedicated graphics card, then I recommend you wait for Richland. The guy in the following article estimates a 20% - 40% improvement over Trinity's APU performance which I believe is a reasonable range.

The performance of the Radeon HD 7660D is a little faster than the desktop Radeon HD 5570. A 20% increase in performance will mean the Radeon HD 8670D in the upcoming Richland APU will be a little faster than the Radeon HD 5670. A 40% increase in performance will mean it is somewhat close to the performance of the Radeon HD 6670 (maybe like 90% if it's performance).

Even at the low end of the range, the performance of a Radeon HD 5670 is pretty decent for an iGPU.

Your current HD5830 will out perform an APU. If you are willing to invest in a nice case and £80 MB then stick with your existing card and get the FX8320 or a lower spec i5. Either will give better performance and future proofing for an additional £30-£40.
