i recently purchased a 4 pin fan splitter on ebay. in one of the sockets, a pin is missing so thers only 3 pins. Would it still work if i plug a 4 pin fan in there. Also, when using a 4 pin fan splitter for cpu fans (h60 water cooler), would it affect the performance of each fan or is there any limitations using a fan splitter. thanks in advance

Soulds like your are talking about a PWM fan splitter cable.

A PWM fan uses 4 wires; fan speed signal, PWM signal, 12V & 0V.

The splitter will have 4 wires that attach to the first fan and 3 for the 2nd fan. This is because the motherboard can only monitor one fan and will then use that reading to control both fans accordingly via the PWM signal.
