AMD 3.6 GHz AM3+ FX4100 Processor vs Amd A10 5800K

Solution
For the $122 you'd spend on the A10-5800k, spend $7 more and get the FX6300...the jump is well worth the money, and probably the most performance gain between 2 chips you'd ever see for $7.

Well not quite, you see AMD uses modules that have 2 real cores that share a front end. Both the FX-4100 and the 5800K are dual module, Quad core processors. And I agree that the 5800K is faster than the FX-4100, however you can up grade from a FX-4100 to a FX-8350 (quad module 8 core beast) on most motherboards while the most you will probably be able to upgrade from a 5800K for a while is to a 6800K (dual module quad core same as 5800k just a new tweaked silicon revision with higher clocks and a few new features) when they get released in June sometime. It is possible that by late 2013 or early 2014 a motherboard with a 5800K could be upgrade-able to a Kaveri based chip which has a new core (steamroller) and a new gpu core (gcn), it will also have up to 3 modules providing 6 cores with true HSA (Heterogeneous System Architecture) design..

I guess the biggest difference beside faster clock speed (5800K) and L3 cache (Fx chip) is the fact the the 5800K has on chip graphics (7660D I believe) and the FX's do not have built in graphics. So if you are going to get a dedicated gpu that could affect which way you want to go. Yes the FX-6300 (3 module 6 core) is faster than the 5800K (dual modual quad core) so it really depends on what you plan on doing with your system.

I was going to buy A10 5800k but the shopkeeper told me that FX 8350 is much better than A10 in performance & gaming. But it consumes more power than a A10 CPU. So which is better FX 8350 or FX 6300 ?? in gaming and multitasking and I want to do some multimedia.
