Is it worth setting up RAID with my setup?

My Samsung 840 250gb drive (installed yesterday) just went up on sale again for $140 and I'm tempted to buy another just to up my ssd storage. Do you guys think my system would even take advantage of this, as it's a bit dated?

what would you Need to use RAID 0 for? if it's just for what u say - more storage, then absolutely Not IMO
RAID is not the answer in your case

I'm betting that the cost of those 2 drives (if you purchase the other for $140) come close to the cost of a 500GB unit

Wouldn't I benefit from the speed? Or is the associated risk too high for average user and occasional gamer?

you won't see a speed increase from RAIDing those 2 drives - nothing more than u see now with one drive

if you just want to learn, by all means, go ahead - IF you have another drive to backup the data that would be on the RAID in case of a hardware failure
