I have an acer laptop, i disassembled it using a video on youtube it had instructions on applying thermal paste on it.
but the guy also applied paste on the copper tubes that were connected with the fan on the other side.
i wanted to ask whether he is right and will it affect the cooling on my laptop as he is not replying.

the video is long so iam posting a photo of my own laptop.

Thermal paste can be used for every surface where a heat conducting device is attached to something. You will benefit from putting a bit of thermal paste between the copper tubes and the fan, but the benefit is very minor. You should always put thermal paste between the CPU and the heatsink, but between the heatsink and the fan is optional.

No offense "Chairman" but telling people this probably isn't real good advice. Most thermal pastes are conduct electricity unless you get the REALLY high end stuff. You might as well stick a loose piece of wire inside the machine...

Thermal paste is simply a medium that facilitates the transfer of heat from one surface to another.

The copper pipes are probably already soldered to their respective heat-sinks. Thermal paste will not transfer heat as well as solder.

I would not mess with those points, just use thermal paste between the CPU's and the heat sinks.

Hi Sammy :)

ABSOLUTELY AND TOTALLY NO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (see my sig)

As said above, its conductive and if lumps of it come off in the future, you can wave bye bye to your fan as well as your cpu :(

You put it on anywhere its intended...cpu,gpu etc....NOWHERE ELSE...

All the best Brett :)
