I currently own the 2600k with the ASUS P8Z77-V PRO MOTHERBOARD. Would the i7- 3770k be a better match for my MB? Would it show a significan improvement? Thanks for all you replies but wanted to see if the MB match is significant?

Ivy Bridge is simply a die shrink of Sandy with an imporved GPU core on die. In your case the improvments would be little unless your incentive is the extra GPU performance and lower power consumpton and heat output. Your only real upgrade for performance when it comes to your CPU is moving over to the LGA 2011 socket and Sandy Bridge-E, which actually while they're excellent performing chips they really only shine there best in heavly threaded environments like rendering and photoshop work.

I have the 2600k and the V pro MB. They "match" perfectly.

The performance increase between the two CPU's will only be noticeable in benchmarks.

If you want to see what a 3770k would feel like, overclock your 2600k a few hundred Mhz.

It's like a 5% difference in most cases.

I disagree with the last poster claiming 4770k will be a big upgrade. We've already seen the benchmarks and it wasn't terribly impressive. I'd recommend just rocking the 2600 for a long time.
