Hey everybody.

As the title says, I'm contemplating a new gfx card. I've been disappointed with how my current gfx card (Nvidia GTX 460) performs in games like Guild Wars 2, a heavily modded Skyrim, and Planetside 2. I find myself having to reduce the graphics to absolute minimum to get a remotely playable experience in any kind of pvp.

My system is old (like almost 7-8 years) but I've upgraded bits and pieces along the way. Here's where I'm at now:

Processor: AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 940 Processor (4 CPUs), ~3.0GHz
Power Supply: Antec TruePower New TP-750 Blue 750W Continuous Power ATX12V V2.3 / EPS12V V2.91
Graphics Processor: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460
Memory: 8192MB RAM
Motherboard: Asus M3A32-MVP Deluxe
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

If I'm missing information, please let me know and I will try to post it.

As far as what's compatible with what, and what exactly my options are for purchases, or if a new gfx card would even help my pc's performance (it's damn old, I know), I could really use some advice.

I was looking at a GTX 570 or GTX 580

Thanks in advance.

Ben

Thanks for that link! I generally do all my computer shopping on newegg, so I hadn't thought to check ebay as I'm not sure how comfortable I would be buying a used graphics card. Would my computer even be able to support that card? As for the gpu, I honestly don't know a thing about overclocking. I'd be willing to try however. How would I go about overlocking the cpu?

I agree with this. These are the two best options in the $300 (GTX 660 Ti) to $380 (GTX 670) price range. Since your CPU is a little underpowered, you might as well save yourself some money and get a nice Asus GTX 660 Ti DirectCU or MSI GTX 660 Ti Power Edition.

The Asus DirectCU and MSI PE are comparable cards in that they both come with custom cooling designs, an enhanced/upgraded PCB, factory overclocks, and upgraded components.

Between the two, I would go for the Asus DirectCU simply because they have proven to be about the quietest at load. The MSI one is great, but might be a little bit louder when gaming.
