I purchased my ACER laptop second hand from a friend. It was originally purchased 3 months prior from Walmart with Windows 7 installed. Of course. About two weeks ago I got a message "This product has known compatability issues. Blah blah blah" which I simply closed. At the next start up I started getting "Your Windows might not genuine messages". Now both of tshose messages persist. Any thoughts? Unless it came from Walmart with ingenuine software, I don't know what's going on...

Sounds to me like your friend reinstalled windows with a non-genuine copy so it wouldn't have any of their info on it when you got it. Reinstall windows again, with the keycode from the sticker on the bottom of the laptop.

Or unless he (or another 'friend') installed a new, pirated OS. Is there a recovery partition, or the refresh DVDs?

Hi :)

Easy answer, hinted at above...

HAS IT GOT the Windows 7 COA legal sticker on the bottom of the Laptop ?

All the best Brett :)
