My GeForce 8800 GTS recently died and I need a good recommendation for an upgraded NVIDIA graphics card around the $100 or less price point. My Motherboard is EVGA 122-CK-NF68-T1 that only supports PCI Express x16. From what I've read PCI Express 2.0 x16 graphics cards are backwards compatible.

The card will be going in an older gaming computer that is primarily used to play:

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive
Left 4 Dead 2
Age of Empires 3
Unreal Tournament

Other computer specs:
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe 2.4GHz
CORSAIR DOMINATOR 4GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500)
WD2500KS 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb

Thanks for your help.

Your Best card if you want Nvidia would be a GT440 (Performance wise)
Anything above might be heldback by you CPU
If AMD then your best card would be HD6670 (Performance wise)
Anything above might be heldback by you CPU
Both of those can play your chosen game in High settings,
Thanks

Thanks for your helpful answer. After pricing the cards out it looks like a newer card like the GeForce GT 610 is less expensive. Would that still work?

Best solution

a b V Motherboard
a b U Graphics card

Yes GeForce GT 610 is less expensive but not a gaming GPU. Will work no problem for day to day use. Thanks
