Hello, I recently got a new motherboard and since then when I play in recent games like Star Wars the Old Republic or Hitman: Absolution on High settings or Low settings I am getting incredible frame drops. In Star Wars I am getting 40-50 fps and then for about 15 seconds to 1 min It drops to 5-10 fps. My new motherboard is a g41m-p33 combo msi, my cpu is a Quad core Q9550 2.83 ghz and my graphic card is a Geforce 550 ti. My cpu never goes over 60 degrees celcius and my Graphic card is stable at 80 degrees when I play Star Wars. I also have Corsair XMS CMX8GX3M2A1333C9 8GB 2X4GB DDR3-1333 CL9-9-9-24 Dual Channel Memory Kit thats is new and I had 2 corsair ddr2 2x2 gb at 1066 that I don't remember correctly. What is causing the frame drop? I have tried everything except to format my pc which I would do in last resort.

Well some parts of the game require more processing power. For example if you stand in an open field, it will require little power. IF you are in a battle with like 10 explosions, then you will see a dip in fps. Whats your gpu? most likely thats your problem.

My gpu is an nvidia geforce gtx 550 ti which I had no problem with before changing my motherboard in all of my games had no drop in fps like that. Also when I experience the frame drop it says my cpu is at 100% but the thing running my cpu to the highest is Star Wars the game itself.

Two things:

1) Did you change motherboard model? (i.e: a new chipset?)

With a new motherboard and the same chipset it is possible to get away without a re-install. Else, reinstall is mandatory in my experience.

2) Check if your CPU is throttling down. This could be a feature of your motherboard.

Did you change your motherboard without reinstalling your operating system. The way you explain it made the swap sound like it was done with out a reinstall. If that is the case that would be most definitely your problem. I don't have that motherboard, I do have the same cpu@3.40ghz (stable as a 85 toyota celica) attached to a gigabyte p43, it is more then capable of any game. Sure it is no i5 but the 650ti is no 680gtx. would say a software conflict. I am guessing here, but your ram is also new with the motherboard change. Might want to do some testing memtest86 is one on the free side.

I did not re-install windows if that's what you are saying. I didn't change the cpu model it is LGA 775 socket the only thing I had to re-install was all the drivers. I am currently trying to format and re-install windows to see if that would fix the problem.

I did not change cpu model it is LGA 775 socket my cpu is the same as it was in my other motherboard only difference is that there is an integrated chipset in it. Do i have to deactivate it or something? Or maybe need to reinstall my os?

I am not talking about your CPU. I am talking about the chipset on the motherboard.

As of now my problem seems to be solved. I opened the side of my computer case and I've put a fan outside for cooling down the inside. Even if my cpu had a maximum temperature of 60 degrees and my gpu a temperature of 80 degrees it looks like it was a temperature problem as I have been playing with this setup for over an hour without any problem.

Yes I did and a lot of it. But my cpu fan is old so I bought another and now waiting for it to ship. I also bought another computer case as I had no extra fan for ventilation.

What I meant by "a lot" is not too much. I've been using TIM on other cpu's before without problem, what I meant was that it covers the cpu nicely by not too much and not too little.

Yeah I didn't even think about the heatsink. I have a aftermarket cpu cooler on my q9550 never sees anything past 56c.http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835106102 does a real nice job at keeping its cool.
