Bricked one 6950, trying to flash backup in winsflash. can't.
That's the short version:

Details are I flashed modded 6950 bios onto 1 sapphire 6950 (the ones without the switches... I realized oh so late)

didn't work. Flashed back the backup bios. Worked fine again (and would have been the perfect time to call it a night)

But we went and Flashed the 6970 bios recommended here: http://www.techpowerup.com/articles/overclocking/vidcard/159

That Bricked one of the cards. Couldn't boot windows with the bricked one connected, and couldn't use winflash

But I made backups mined the web for help and for the past few hours have involved following steps listed here:

http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/showthread.php?t=57750

and here:

Have made booting dr. dos cdrom from nero . Have all the commands I need to flash it back (we hope)

BUT .... I can't seem to locate the ati winflash directory when I boot the live cd with NOTHING BURNED on it but winflash and the three backups?!?

All that I;ve found seems to leave me hanging between booting the dos cd and running atiflash.

Yes, laugh laugh,I know next to zero about dos....

I KNOW winflash is there on the cdrom, have taken it out and viewed them on other windows machines,

So we're Just PRAYING someone here can get me to the darn program and flash this thing to normal please.

Thanks in advance and yes, you all deserve a laugh on me as 10 minutes further reading could have avoided this whole issue.

You need another video card or IGP to get into your winflash directory, so you can copy all that is needed onto the flash drive. Then you can put the bricked card back in and run it from the boot flash drive. You may also be capable of putting another card in your primary PCIe slot, and put that one in the 2nd PCIe slot, after which, you need to flash to the 2nd PCIe slot adjusting the commands you were using.

Also, there is no way to use the Techpowerup technique with your card. It is not a reference card and those instructions will not work. You have to utilize another technique, but at this point you are best off just not doing it.
Here is a link to some direction I used to do mine a couple years ago: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/316974-33-radeon-6950-shader-unlock-instructions#t2368661

There are some people that also bricked their cards and we figured a way to get them unbricked. It is not easy.

Thanks Bystander.... I've already got back in and extracted the backups by disconnecting the bricked card.

You are preaching to the converted as far as messing with bioses ever again goes....

I think i need to repeat though.... what's got me stumped is mounting atiflash from dos.....
I have the boot disk standing by (I tried with USB, can't get it to boot). but not in drive A, C, or D, does the "dir" command show me the atiflash file. What I'm asking for, I guess, is direction (that a 5 yr old can comprehend.... i repeat.... I'm lost when it comes to DOSland...) on exactly where to navigate to before running the atiflash -f -p 1 "oldreliable.rom" command that ought to be the solution.

Ok. just navigated to atiflash in hard drive. now thoough, when running atiflash -p 1 backup.rom I'm getting "error fl01" which and when doing atiflash -f -p 1 backup.rom I get "file backup.rom not found.

But I put the backup right inside the folder just now when is safe mode.

Anyone ever heard of this conundrum?
