So I've got a rare racing itch I need to scratch. I was going to try out Test Drive Unlimited 2, but everyone on the internet seems dead-set against it in reviews. I'm not usually a fan of arcade-y racing games. But since I'm an RPG fan, I'm a sucker for rags-to-riches type things, where you start off with barely anything (like a crappy car), and you work your way up (through racing, for instance) until you're wielding a +4 Pointy Staff of Ogre-Slaying (or Ferrari; you get the idea).
Any *good* games like that for the PC? Graphics don't mean as much as gameplay, which is why I turned from TDU2 (heard the driving was crummy), but I would like a relatively modern game, let's say, within 2-4 years. All suggestions welcome! Thanks!
