Hello everyone,
Today I purchased an OCZ Vertex 3 low profile SSD.
After i fitted the SSD I installed windows on it. And wiped my 1TB HDD (OS used to be on there).
After that was done I spoke to my friend (who also has a vertex 3) about the boot time. He said that with his SSD, he couldn't even see the "starting Windows" message because it was so fast. Where as with mine, it stays there for a good 7 seconds. I then downloaded Crystal mark and ran a few tests. Here are the results.
Test #1

CrystalDiskMark 3.0.2 x64 (C) 2007-2013 hiyohiyo
Crystal Dew World : http://crystalmark.info/
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
* MB/s = 1,000,000 byte/s [SATA/300 = 300,000,000 byte/s]
Sequential Read : 323.236 MB/s
Sequential Write : 177.065 MB/s
Random Read 512KB : 303.329 MB/s
Random Write 512KB : 175.807 MB/s
Random Read 4KB (QD=1) : 0.476 MB/s [ 116.3 IOPS]
Random Write 4KB (QD=1) : 83.802 MB/s [ 20459.5 IOPS]
Random Read 4KB (QD=32) : 7.768 MB/s [ 1896.6 IOPS]
Random Write 4KB (QD=32) : 114.267 MB/s [ 27897.1 IOPS]
Test : 1000 MB [C: 34.9% (39.0/111.8 GB)] (x5)
Date : 2013/04/06 20:37:58
OS : Windows 7 Home Premium Edition SP1 [6.1 Build 7601] (x64)

Test #2

Sequential Read : 319.932 MB/s
Sequential Write : 177.589 MB/s
Random Read 512KB : 302.675 MB/s
Random Write 512KB : 176.610 MB/s
Random Read 4KB (QD=1) : 23.234 MB/s [ 5672.4 IOPS]
Random Write 4KB (QD=1) : 83.515 MB/s [ 20389.3 IOPS]
Random Read 4KB (QD=32) : 24.071 MB/s [ 5876.8 IOPS]
Random Write 4KB (QD=32) : 112.854 MB/s [ 27552.4 IOPS]

Vertex 3 specifications:

Sequential Read: 550 MB/s
Sequential Write: 400 MB/s
4k Random Read: 90,000 IOPS
4k Random Write: 95,000 IOPS

As you can see this is not even close to what is expected of the Vertex 3.
I was wondering if anyone could help me find out whether the fault is on my part or OCZ. I am using SATA 3 Ports / 6gbps and have a 64 bit operating system.
My specs below.

Any help would be appreciated.

Only guessing: Did you update the firmware to the latest version? SATA mode set to AHCI? Any i/o errors in event viewer? Beside that, the benchmark is not that bad, so it could also be waiting for a dhcp server or something like that. You should see that in event viewer.

There is nothing in Event viewer, I'll change it to ACHI And i don't know how to update firmware, Thanks for the reply, i'll look into updating the firmware. :D

Install the software, that came with the ssd. It will tell you, if the firmware needs an update. Problem: you need an other pc ore am other start disk, because you can not update the c drive.

OCZ's advertised Read/Write speeds are with ATTO benchmark software.

ATTO uses highly compressible data to test Read/Write speeds.
CrystalDiskMark uses highly incompressible data to test Read/Write speeds.

Even with ATTO It only broke 400mb once. And the read only got just above 350.

Is that normal?

Yes, your ATTO confirms that your performance is not what it should be.
It shouldn't make a difference but try connecting the drive to another port and retest. Connect the drive to port SATA3_0 if it is not there already.

Before you change SATA ports update your AMD Chipset drivers and see if that helps.

I will try to update my chipset drivers. All the SATA ports on my motherboard are SATA 3 6gb. I have tried changing it, but with no improvement.

Thanks everyone for helping! After playing around with every single setting possible, it turns out it was something to do with the SATA plug. Which is strange considering all the ports are supposed to be SATA III. Anyway, everything is working perfectly. Thanks again.
