Is hyperthreading necessary/better for games in the feature?

I will play new games and games in the future.
My question is: "Would HT'ing be nice for the new games and later games in the future?"
I know that BF3 takes a benefit of HT'ing. BUT will that be in futured games too?

Thanks!

Isn't HT'ing better for games in the future ? I'm in doubt for an i5 3750 (non-HT) or an i7 3770 (well-HT). Most people say 'take the i5' but i'm thinking: 'why? its maybe better because it's not HT, but the i5 is older than an i7' :s

Okay thanks for the advice, but does it matter how old the CPU is? Would i still can run games in 4 years(maybe more ... ;)) with the i5 3750(@3.4Ghz) or will an i7 3770(@3.4Ghz) be better?

I see you have an i5 3750K, do you have more fps since you have overclocked your CPU to 4.3Ghz ?

All I really play is WoW and my CPU hasn't been stock since the day I bought it. It did improve my framerates some over my i5 2400 due to increase clock speed maybe 10fps at most. I only bought the 3570k combo because my i5 2400 and P67 extreme 4 was put in my file server to get it back up and running after a hardware failure. Microcenter's 3570K and $50 off motherboard was too good to pass up. My GPU's hold me back more than anything. I think they are running out of memory since I run 2048 x 1152 resolution.

I'd like to see the performance difference with an i3/i7 when the hyper threading is disabled. Would be interesting to see if there really is a performance gain purpoted by various intel fans. I also wonder if an i7 with only two cores enabled + HTing perform anywhere close to an i7 with four cores and no HTing.

Heck, maybe do a test with only a single i3 core with HTing enabled and then compare the results to an i3 with both cores and HTing disabled.

Preferably, the test be done on a variety of games.

But yeah, that's getting off-topic.

If the future is your concern, and considering how the next-gen consoles are utilizing octacore AMD proccies, it'd be a wiser move to go for an AMD 8-core. Like the 8320.

That's not factoring in that future-proofing is as perfect an example of a fallacy as one can be, however.
