Hi Everyone,

I just recently purchased an Asus U47A and Im having some strange touchpad issues. This laptop uses an elantech, not a synaptec like I've seen in 90% of other laptops. Anyways, most of the time the laptop is fine, but every few hours the cursor on my screen will begin to jump around uncontrollably. If I try to use the touchpad to move it, it hardly responds to my movements and if it does, it doesnt even move in the direction that Im sliding my fingers. I've tried to download both the Elantech drivers and the Asus Smart Gesture drivers and I've had the problem on both sets of drivers. Has anyone seen this before? Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance

It says Brett has been banned.. Good because his attitude stinks! To anyone reading this and cnsidering taking their laptop apart to reseat the touchpad flexi connector - go ahead and try it. I have repaired countless video cameras and laptops in a professional capacity and sometimes - guess what Brett - reseating a connector solves the problem!

It only takes one contact (of sometimes many) to become intermittent for a fault to show up. Intermittency can occur for a host of reasons but on a new device it could be that it was always intermittent from assembly and was working fine during QC checks in the factory.

It doesn't take a genius to conclude that the touchpad is probably faulty but the connector is part of that touchpad and is the first thing any engineer will check. What an idiot you'd feel to order new parts only to realise it was a poor connection. I know because I've done that!

Good luck to anyone with the nouse and nerve to attempt their own repairs. Don't let strangely aggresive posters like Brett put you off and peddle false information with the confidence of someone who knows what they're talking about.
