Fixing corrupt Windows after Virus attack!

I'm No expert on computers, But it sounds like you may want to restore your computer to factory default. The way you can do this, is on the boot screen, continually press F10, if this does not work, try this again, but instead, pressing F8 repeatedly. if F10 works, choose the option to restore your computer to factory default. if you pressed F8 you should get a menu that has the first option, stating "Repair Your Computer" press this, then type in your password and keyboard input (slide down menu) and then when it comes up with "recovery tools" scroll down to the bottom of the dialouge box, and press Restore to factory default. When it finishes restoring, it will come like new, so you will have to set things up again.


P.S if you have any files you would like to keep, i would advise saving them to a USB, because everything will be wiped from your computer.

Reformating the machine is almost certainly unnecessary.
Windows security essentials may not be the only tool you need to fix this. I know you don't want to use third party software, but sometimes they do provide the best tool for the job.
Try getting and running avg, a popular, effective, free antivirus, and see if it finds anything. Alternatively, if you really just do not want to install something, then go to kaspersky's website and download their recovery disk, burn that and you boot into a seperate OS which you can run their software from without installing it. In either case, maybe it's just me(?) but I wouldn't trust MS security essentials to be the end all, be all of antivirus. You should use something in tandem with it.

Other than that, for actually repairing your windows files, there's a few windows tools you can use. You can open an elevated command prompt (type cmd at the start menu, right click on the command prompt, and select run as administrator) and type sfc /scannow and wait for the scan. It will check critical system files for anything that may have been damaged and repair as it goes.

There's also the chkdsk but that's more for hdd errors, so may be a waste of time...

For action center, are you able to open it? Is the only problem that it isn't showing in the taskbar? Try opening it from the start menu, typing action center and clicking on it. Does it open?
So to see if it's turned off, click start -> control panel -> change view to small icons -> notification area icons -> what is action center set to? If it's set to hide, then change it to show icon and notifications.

As for the network folder issue, by network folder do you mean what you click on, in file explorer, on the left bar? In any case, to access your sharing options, click start and type network and sharing center, then on the left click change advanced settings.

Here, turn on or off what you want to. Just make sure you know the benefeits / drawbacks before turning things on or off here, but this is the direct place to address that message you keep getting, since the message is apparently failing to do what it says it will. So if you really want these options on, click the radials for turn on network discovery and turn on file and printer sharing.

Once those are on, save changes, go back and check the "Network folder". Is it still giving you grief with this message?

If any of this fails to address the problem, just let me know, there's probably other stuff to try out if you have the patience for it. Just don't go formatting your computer before it's necessary. That's a large scale soluton to a small scale problem.
