I have recently been having a problem where my PC will just shut down like someone pulled the power cable out. This normally happens under a load like playing a game but not always. I'm thinking its a cpu issue, I reformatted and ran a program called Heavy Load with only the option to test the cpu selected. Ran fine for a few minutes then my PC shut down. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Mobo- MSI 790gx-g65
CPU- AMD Phenom II quad core 965
Ram- Corsair 4x4 vengeance LP DDR3
Psu- Corsair TX 850
Video- Asus Geforce GTX 470
Win 7

Download "core temp" and give us some temps. When your CPU overheats; at a predetermined temperature the system will shut down. And it will be like someone plugged the plug, not a Windows shut-down producture.

Just looked up the TDP of your CPU. It's 125 watts and that is alot, about as high as it gets. That's alot of heat for a cooler to dissipate. Are you using the stock cooler?

ram may be bad, i know that bad ram can cause shut downs and bsods. Run memtest with all sticks and if u get errors then test each stick by itself.

Usually cpus dont go bad unless u make them go bad lol C

Could be ur motherboard or power supply, where something couldnt put out the power or something and auto shutdown.

Could be an overheat did u monitor temps while testing?

Reran the test with core temp open ran for about 4 minutes idle temp at 41c shut down at 124c. also forgot to add of the 4 active phasing leds, 2, 3, and 4 seem to randomly flash. Yes i am using the stock cooler and have been for 2 years now with no previous issues.

Well, as least you know what the problem is.
I'd say either the fan is burned out(not turning), the thermal paste has gone bad or the cooler is loose. For either of the last two, you'll have to apply new thermal paste. You can reasearch how to do this, as there are many methods.

However, your system may have also suffered heat damage and may not be the same again. Even after the cooling issue is fixed.

Anyone else else care to offer some advice?
