Please help?

I've never used a "FreeNAS RAID" system before.

My friend's FreeNAS "System Hard Drive" died and he has 6 other drives in this server. He wants to switch to Window7 Ultimate. Question is...

Can I simply install a New Hard Drive, install Win7 Ultimate, and then access the remaining FreeNAS "RAID" drives?

Is there any things Special I might need to know in accomplishing this?
Old and the new... All is 64bit/NTFS.

Will the NEW HD with the NEW Win7 Ultimate Installation Recognize the FreeNAS RAID drives once plugged in?

Thank you in Advance...
PLEASE ADVISE!
Leda

PS: I plan to go try tomorrow and am just hoping for a little insight what I may need to do.

Gee Thanks!
I believe I found the answer on my own...
I did not realize Freenas was a BSD off-shoot. I've ran BSD since 1996.

Having dug MORE... I see that I can boot freenas off a usb, then config existing drives and use my laptop to do what ever via network.

I don't think windows will be able to see the RAID, as the RAID is probably done via software. Easiest way, as you have discovered, would be to simply boot a freenas usb drive.

btw why was your friend using ntfs on freenas? kind of silly when freenas has ZFS...

He does not know anything about it. His Admin moved to Europe and RAID was what he told me. I read up on it last night.. and installed it on VMware.. And back at it this morning 5am before heading over there. I need to rad a bit more this AM though.

IMO...
Freeenas basically, is like a fancy router. I'll put freenas back on and give him the run down how to use it and map his new PC back into it.

My tech days ended when BNC networks were still in use.. Then I went to programming and working with Booleen search Logic at Lexis-Nexis.

He's gonna owe me.. Big time!

yes, freenas is essentially a stripped down FreeBSD preconfigured to be a NAS, and comes with a nice web gui to easily configure everything.
