can we expect nvidia 600 series price drops when the 700 series is released?

I still have a few months to wait (looking at upgrading in the July/August time frame) and am thinking about a GTX 670. Would you think the prices on theGTX 670s will drop either...

- just before the release of the 700 series
- at the same time the 700 series is released
- shortly after the release of the 700 series
- not for some time after the release of the 700 series

Thanks

I guess my thought process is that if I hear about an August release date for the 700 series and can expect GTX 670s to drop in September I won't mind waiting an extra couple of months to pick up a new card.

I have a couple months to wait out an announcement as I wont be have enough disposable cash to grab a $400 GTX 670 until then. I know a bunch of folks are gonna tell me how I can get one for like $350 now but I have a specific card from a specific OEM in mind. (gigabyte GTX 670 OC) and these run at $399 (Canadian funds) at the moment.

Any sources or rationale behind the comment that 700 series will not be released until 2014 or at the earliest Xmas?

I would think that the 700 series would be out ahead of the AMD Sea Islands 8000 series cards which have been confirmed by AMD to be expected in late 2013.

Anything I may not know?

There is one, Nvidia tends to release AFTER AMD does.

Roy Taylor, a corporate vice president and head of AMD's global channel sales. "We have new products. We have a roadmap. We are not sitting still, we do not lack resources, and we do not lack imagination. Let me be clear: The new products will be a new architecture."

Anyhow what Roy says and what Nvidia says is basically they came up with new architecture design, I can only assume that the release of these2 series by this year or early next year will be a verrrrrrry close battle IMO There wont be a night and day difference with performance but a night and day difference in price. My bet AMD will lead because their marketing is better.

and Please DO NOT BELIEVE WCCFTECH they fabricated AMD's story hard to believe them once they give out false information.

What? You are missing the point. No GPUs until at the earliest Xmas...

Generally when a popular card gets discontinued the price is jacked up a bit by retailers due to rarity. Unless its been kickin around on the shelf for a long time in which case theyll do an instant rebate type of thing. Not bestbuy though..
