I currently have 2 6990's.
They are both 1GB Each and Im not happy anymore with the performance.
So What would be a great upgrade preferably 1 card that isnt exactly Expensive as hell.
I mean Id really like 3GB of Vram but 2GB would cut it id appreciate if you could give me options for a great 3GB card and a 2GB card from both Nvidia and AMD.
I mean i have a GREAT CPU and tons of RAM etc. Just need a big graphics card change! Thanks alot.

Umm, could you check your specs again? there isn't a 6990 with 1 GB of RAM. If you had 2 6990s, you could max out any game at 1080p or even 2560x1600. the 6990 is a dual gpu card that cost around $1000 when it came out.

Also what cpu are using and what's your budget? I second cooky's recommendations if they fit your budget and you have at least a first gen i5.
And the amount of VRAM (GB on the gpu) doesn't matter past 2GB unless your playing at a higher res than 1920x1080. Very few games even use more than 1GB at 1920x1080 (BF3 does).

You actually have 2x4GB of vram which is not the same as 8GB. Video ram is always mirrored so you only get a total of 4GB of addressable ram. 4GB is still way more than any current game uses (even on a 2560x1600 monitor). What resolution are your monitors? (to find out, right click on desktop and select 'screen resolution')

According to an older post of yours, you have an Alienware Area-51 Desktop computer, right? If it's working properly, this computer should yield excellent performance.

Can you list why your unhappy with performance? If it's low FPS, can you give an example?

Also, let's test some temps with GPU-Z.
Create a GPU-Z log while gaming and post it to Pastbin:
-Download GPU-z, install it and run it. Go to the 'Sensors' tab and check off 'Log to file' at the bottom. Save the log on your desktop or wherever and minimize gpuz.
-Then play a game for 5-10 minutes.
-Now, close the game and click on the gpuz icon in your taskbar. Uncheck 'Log to file'.
-Now copy-paste the contents of that log file into http://pastebin.com/ and post the URL of your paste here.

If you aren't gaming with eyefinity, only the monitor you're gaming on matters. Almost no vram is used to display the desktop or web browser (or even a video).

Anyway, follow the rest of my previous post if you would like to troubleshoot your performance problems. Spending less than $1000 on new GPUs would be a downgrade from your current ones. So i don't recommend replacing them unless they are broken.
