Now I'm looking to get a quality PSU for my $600 build. I have a hd 7850 2gb. So after browsing around I found two psu's I have in mind for buying. First Thermaltake here. And Corsair here And XFX here I've read the tier list at eggxpert and it says that thermaltake toughpower 600w+ are tier 2. So which one would you recommend?

I know I read this, but I'm wondering is the thermaltake even though its 80 plus gold worth it, or should I go for corsair? Or possibly xfx? Better yet, is thermaltake reputable?

Thermaltakes generally don't have the best reputation - not bad, but not excellent. XFX's are mad by SeaSonic, who are one of the best manufacturers. Corsair is generally pretty good, especially in the high end. They also have pretty good support.

You don't need much to run a 7850 though - all of the above will be fine.

Thermaltake Toughpower TP has never been on anyone's top PSU lists
Coraie CX is Corsair's "Builder" (read budget) series
The XFX Core Edition usually gets 9.5 performance ratings from jonnyguru but this one garnered only an 8.5

Id grab this 750 watter for $70

CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX750 V2 750W
$140 MSRP - $30 newegg discount - $20 off w/ promo code EMCXSXS29, ends 4/10 - $20 MIR
$140 PSU for $70

Platinum, Gold, Silver , Bronze DON'T MEAN BEANS to your PC components .... I mean it's a big whoop to the tree huggers (myself included) but doesn't say much about power quality, voltage stability and cleanliness of the power. All it does mean is how many pennies per monthyou save....and yes I do mean pennies.

If I get the corsair, will it be able to crossfire with a hd 7870? I plan on getting one later. But still could it? or should I go for the xfx/thermaltake?

Actually that is a better deal! I might as well go for it! $69 after rebate and promo! What a steal!

I wouldn't say that, CF down clocks to the slower card. Agree with the PSU. I dropped a huge load on my corsair 650 and its doing just fine,

terrible advice. the 80+ ratings are the industry standard and cannot be faked by unscrupulous companies. id put a 7850 on a gold 500w xfx before id put it on a bronze corsair 750.

Merely being efficient does not make it a significantly better PSU - it's a nice feature, but it doesn't mean a thing about whether the caps will pop in a year, or how good the voltage regulation or ripple is.

Only thing 80PLUS is really good for is that it means that the PSU can actually do the rated load. Which you'll find in a decent review.

IIRC thermaltake had some issues with using poor-quality chinese caps a while back - which, while it will work fine now, could be bad down the line.

You are so wrong about so many things I don't know where to start.

Oh? There was me under the impression that it's only your electricity bill (and, to a certain degree, the planet) that cares about efficiency, as power quality all that matters to your CPU/GPU. High ripple and bad voltage regulation can kill a PC, but not inefficiency or a low power factor.

Educate me.

EDIT: Clarity. Sorry to the OP for taking this slightly off topic.
