Hi everyone i'm planning to build a new gaming computer soon and am trying to pick up parts when they are on sale. My build so far is an i5-3570 and either a 7870xt or 7950. I will pick decide on ram, psu, and a tower later on. But i saw this motherboard on sale but i'm not sure if its good or not.

This was my original choice.

I quickly scanned the specifications, and the motherboard looks good for the money and appropriate for a 3570K and single card GPU solution.

A word of warning, getting a manufacturer's rebate is a bit like going fishing. It takes a lot of prep, and lot of patience, and even then you still might not catch anything and even if you do you'll wonder why you just didn't go to supermarket.

Uhhh.. What is wrong with it to make it "not good?"

It has PCI-e 16x 3.0, the latest Z77 chipset, USB 3.0, SATA 3, onboard 7.1 realtek audio, and supports overclocking, Turbo and everything one expects from a Z77 chipset. For a single card GPU solution (which is the most appropriate option for the vast majority of gamers), what more could you want?

That's what the guy at tigerdirect recommended when i went their a few weeks ago. I'm not familiar with computers so i figured it would be a decent pick.
edit: I won't be overclocking and i picked up the 3570 for $40 less than the k version.

Most gamers like the Core i5 3570K. For those who know me and have me do their builds, you’ll know that it’s just about the best processor you can get for the money today. With plenty of performance, top notch overclocking capability and enough horsepower to run any game you throw at it, the choice is a no brainer. If you plan to get non k chip you should get i5-3470 or i5-3550 and H77 motherboard Z77 motherboard is for overclocking mate. The Z77 Pro 3 can be purchased for as little as $90. Taking a look at the current availability of Intel Z77 motherboards at popular retailers confirms that this motherboard is an absolute bargain and I would say – if you are on a tight budget then give this board some consideration.

The only negative I have for this motherboard is that it slips outside of typical ATX specifications. It’s 3cm thinner than a standard ATX motherboard and as a result may lack secure mounting on the far side since this isn’t a common size, which also means you should be very careful when plugging in the 24-pin ATX motherboard power – as the motherboard may flex.It may just be me i have never liked the cheap thin flexible motherboards.

In that case, a B75 or H77 should be sufficient. B75's are generally cheaper but may have less features.
Some noteworthy options:
These boards are okay, but they only have two USB 3.0 ports and one SATA III port, so you'll only be able to add one SSD (you can use SATA II for SSD but it'll be significantly slower).

And this $8 more Gigabyte one:

Better H77 option, comes with two SATA III ports but still two USB 3.0 ports:

I personally own a Gigabyte H77 and find no problems. However, this one had two SATA III ports but came with only one SATA III cable (so I'll have to buy another cable if I want to add another SSD).

If you're only using one HDD/SSD, then you'll be good to go with these boards.
