Hi,
I've got a TPower i45 mobo with a Q6600 CPU, running 4GB (2 x 2) DDR2-1066MHz RAM. Gets used heavily every day for work and has been running fine for a couple of years.

Friday morning turned on, first odd thing was I got the mobo boot screen (which I had switched off in the bios.) Then got 'CMOS Checksum Bad' message. I checked the BIOS and things like clock setting were ok. I loaded the defaults to get the pc to boot, but it freezes after less than a minute.

I tried running Memtest86+ on boot (setting in the BIOS) and either got lots of errors, or it would just freeze. I then tried taking out one of the memory sticks -everything runs smoothly. So I thought duff memory stick. But then I swapped the memory, run the tests again and again everything runs smoothly.

Basically I can insert any single memory dimm into any of the slots and it runs fine. But as soon as I insert a pair of dimms it fails, again regardless of the sockets used (my mobo has 4 dimm sockets & I always pair them correctly.)

I've also tried swapping the memory with another 2 x 2GB from another pc and the same thing happens, so I don't think it is the memory.

I've also tried updating the BIOS to the latest version. No effect.

Any ideas? I would be very grateful for any insight! Thanks for reading...

Jim

Hi Pastit,
Thanks for your reply. That was my first thought, but the BIOS had retained the correct date and time settings. Also would that explain the Memtest86+ errors?
Any other ideas anyone?
Jim
