1st, I just bought a newer computer which has a 1tb HDD, it shows a drive c: with 183gb and a drive d: with 733gb. almost a 100gb short why? 2nd Ift drive c: gets full does the system know to use drive d: without me telling it to? And 3rd why can't I just create one partition for the entire HDD?

1)It is normal - all hard drive makers quote gigs in decimal; the OS counts in binary. That means you get 93% of the stated capacity (or about 930 GBytes for a 1000G drive).
2)no
3)yes, http://www.partition-tool.com/personal.htm
copy everything from d to c drive, remove d, expand c.

Thanks rgd1101,
Since drive d: was empty it was simple to dump and just make one drive c: which is now little over 900gb. I've never dealt with this large of drive before and it puzzled me that it was split, now its not, again thanks.
