Windows 7 Continually Restarting

So, I've recently began having a problem with Windows 7 that I cannot seem to find an answer to. Windows will boot up, and then restart shortly after, and this process just continues non-stop. I never get any errors of any kind, everything starts up fine, the splash screen comes up, desktop loads fine, and I can start up programs just fine. Shortly though, usually anywhere between 30 seconds and a minute, Windows goes through a normal shutdown process as if I shut it down myself, it logs me off then says shutting down and it restarts, and this happens infinitely.

At first I thought it may be a hardware issue, but it seems to me that if Windows loads up just fine that that may not be the case, as most people who seem to have an infinite restart loop can't even get to the desktop, the computer just restarts at the splash screen. The strange thing is that when I try to boot up into safe mode, the restart doesn't happen, but then when I try booting into safe mode with networking, I get the restarts again. My CPU is running cool, so it isn't an overheating issue, and I ran the windows memory diagnostic and got no errors. I have tried booting from the installation disk and running startup repair to no avail, and system restore does not complete either.

Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Hi :)

Run a hard drive test in DOS... HIRENS BOOT CD etc, it sounds like a failing hard drive... do NOT do this if you have an SSD...

Also is that Ultimate genuine as the other ones came with a rather neat set of viruses ??

All the best Brett :)

Hi :)

Thats good....

If you think about this...if it works endlessly in Safe mode with NO restarts it got to be a software problem...

I would format and reload...

All the best Brett :)

Yeah, it seems like that's what I'm going to have to do, as much as I really don't want to.

It seems to somehow be internet related. When I boot into safe mode without networking it works fine, then when I boot into safe mode with networking, I get the restarts. Out of curiosity I tried unplugging the ethernet cable and booting up normally, and everything works fine with no restarts. Strange indeed.

Hi :)

Try this...buy a USB/ETHERNET adaptor (a few pounds/dollars) and try that...

Or reinstall your ethernet drivers...

All the best Brett :)
