Converting a Dell W 7 or W 8 + HDD computer to pure Linux + SSD

I am planning to build a desktop myself but not sure about my skills to accomplish it because the BIOS set up and installations of drivers etc sound bit complicated for me. I am looking for only SSD for my storage and only linux mint as my OS but these are not commonly available in the market so I am planning to buy whatever is available in the market and then convert it into SSD based storage and linux based OS.

In this regard I thought I will buy a dell desktop for example dell inspiron 660s containing windows 7 or 8 and then connect SSD and then install linux into it.

Since I do not want the windows 8 or 7 that comes default with the dell desktop so I thought of permanently disconnecting the HDD hard drive that comes with the dell computer from the mother board first and then put the SSD inside the computer cabinet and attach it to the mother board with the appropriate SATA cable. Then while turning on the computer I will install the linux mint through a DVD and in the future I will use just the linux mint and keep the windows 7 or 8 permanently disconnected from the mother board. My computer use is limited to just some basic web browsing and there will not be any down loading, gaming etc so I guess I will use some 60 to 120 gb SSD which appears sufficient for my usage.

Can I use the above approach to 1) get rid of the windows 7 or 8 permanently and also to 2) get rid of the HDD too permanently so that I can use only the SSD and the linux in that desktop that I am going to buy from dell?

With the Linux disc you can format the HDD, and Windows will no longer be on the hard drive, alternatively, you could still dual boot, windows will still be there, but you never have to go to it, or you can leave windows on it, and remove it from GRUB, so that the files are still there, and if you ever need windows you can add it later, but it will never boot to it until you add the OS to GRUB (or whatever bootloader you use).

Thanks Corbeau!, yes i too thought of retaining the windows because if ever i need it again, so i thought of keeping everything on the HDD as before. But i will keep it disconnected from the mother board i suppose - so it will never be recognized by the computer. I agree with all your suggestions but since i am not well versed with booting, GRUB etc so is it okay if i disconnect the SATA cable of the HDD from the mother board and in its place connect to the SSD? And formatting the HDD is not an options too because i am worried if the HDD is not disconnected from the mother board then it may get recognized by the computer, and then the computer might store or download some files to the HDD too, means it may store files on both the SSD and the HDD as it wishes and i am hoping to use only the SSD so that i can benefit from the speed of SSD, so i am planning to keep the HDD disconnected from the mother board and is it okay to do so, or is it an option for me?
