One VGA cable will work, the other won't

The question isn't as simple as sumarized in the header. It is this : I needed a longer VGA cable to connect my laptop tothe TV. When I got it (15') it worked fine. Then after switching the TV back to cable I returned to the VGA input and the TV (LG) wouldn't give me the option to select this as an input. After some messing around, I plugged in the old VGA (2') into the TV (not connected to the laptop) and instantly the TV reconized a VGA input and gave me the option. I selected it and then immediately swapped the cable for the new one. Everything was fine again until I changed out of VGA mode, and again the option was not available (TV couldn't 'See' the VGA input). The only difference I can physically see in the cables (apart from length) is that the short one has what appear to be two coils(?) one just past the plug on each end (Inerference supressors?) and thats it. It sill doesn't explain why it could see the cable for several days and now disowns it! Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

Sure I could do that, BUT, why does the long cable work as soon as I 'Fool' the TV into 'seeing' it as being the short cable? Also why did it work fine for a few days then just stop for no apparant reason? thats what I'm trying to figure out.

It's a bad cable. There is a loose connection inside. No connection between the pins at one end, and the pins at the other end.
Toss it and get a new one.

Quite possible that it is a busted cable. Shame if it is, since it is brand new. Weird thing is that when i plug the laptop into another TV, the cable works perfectly. :pfff:

If it works 'sometimes', there is a loose connection inside somewhere.
Sometimes it connects, sometimes it doesn't. Wiggle it...I'll bet you see it drop off.
