BSOD when clicking NVIDIA Ethernet Configuration

I have a NVIDIA nForce 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet device that is running at 100 Mbps. I just bought a Synology NAS (2112j) and it is running really slow (less than 1 MBps) from this computer (my wireless laptop with 10/100 has faster connections to it - 50 MBps). So I was doing some trouble shooting and decided to look at the NIC. Clicked the configuration button and BSOD. I didn't copy down any error codes but if you tell me how I can look in the DMP file. I reloaded the NVIDIA software but still get a BSOD. Any thoughts? Thanks!

You can just plug your computer in. At least the nas has a GB-port, that will automatically detect the direct connection without a switch or router. The USB is for external drive and printers only and will not work.

Perfect (sort of) and thanks - that worked for the BSOD issue - I no longer have a button to run the NVIDIA ethernet config. I now go to the advanced tab of properties (where the button used to be) and I have a number of choices. I checked speed/duplex and I don't have 1000 Mbps available. I supsect it is because my router (UVerse freebie - 3801HGV) is 100 Mbps, so my NIC won't go any higher. Sound right?

If that is the case, then my main computer (wired ethernet) should be running faster than my wireless laptop when accessing the NAS, but it is not and I don't know what else to check. I can head to the Synology forum, but if you have any ideas, I am all ears.

I thought about direct connecting but what do I plug in? I see an ethernet connection but was thinking I couldn't just plug it into my other ethernet connection on my computer. There is also obviously a USB, but didn't think that would work either. I will try both if you say they might.

I use Microsoft Security Essentials - I turned off real-time protection - no effect. I then went to Task Manager (only way I know to turn it off). No effect. Good thoughts though - thanks!

Just plugged the NAS into my other ethernet port - speed zoomed to over 50 Mbps. The router is the issue it looks like. I have been toying with adding a second router to add N (the UVerse one is G only) so maybe this will push me. Thanks for the help. For what I need (backup mostly) this will work for now until I get the second router. Thanks again!
