Will this work as a gaming computer

Solution
What is the resolution of the monitor? The higher the resolution the more powerful the graphics card should be.

What type of performance are you looking for in terms of average frame rate? The higher the frame rate, the more powerful the graphics card needs to be. "Acceptable frame rates" is subjective and varies from person to person. Some are fine with an average of 35 FPS in graphically demanding games. Others may want at least 60 FPS.

How much eye-candy do you want? The higher the level of eye-candy, the more powerful of a card you need. Playing games with medium quality graphic settings requires significantly less power than playing at ultra quality settings.

Thanks for the advice. I put the wrong link to the case, thanks for pointing that out.

If you're going to decrease the CPU quality to increase GPU quality, get an AMD.

Hi :)

Look at it this way...

When a customer asks my company to build them a GAMING machine, we say ...you MUST spend at LEAST 33% of your total budget on the graphics card....

Then work from there...

All the best Brett :)

To push a HD 7850 GPU, I would recommend a FX4300, if you can swing just a tad more, go with the FX6300...the price difference will be roughly $20 and the FX6300 is dramatically more CPU and will be much more capable of pushing higher end graphics cards...(6 cores vs 4 cores...makes a world of difference)

Try that...you'll want more MoBo than what you had and the rest is just minor tweaks to get you a tad more for your money.

Also, if you're open to using something other than Windows, you might look into ubuntu...check out wine for ubuntu and see if the games you play run on wine, if they do, and they are gold or platinum rated, then you're golden and you can run ubuntu for FREE...plus ubuntu is supported by Canonical Inc. so you have full time tech support for it just like windows. That would save you $95.00 in your build you could spend elsewhere.

the Coolmax psu is junk. Get the XFX 550W I suggested in my build instead.
