Hi people. Long time fan/lurker of this fine site but first time poster.

I'm having a hard time finding info on setting up RAID. I have a new build HTPC using:
Asus P8Z77-M, Intel i5 3570K proc, Samsung 840 (MZ) 120G SSD, Two WD (AV-GP WD20EURS) 2TB HD's, Windows 7 Pro 64bit.

Installed OS on SSD and then connected the two HD's without any issues-everything recognized appropriately. In bios changed only visible setting of SATA from AHCI to RAID and OS won't boot up. I'm not apposed to OS re-instillation if need be. Tried installing all drivers from ASUS and windows updates. Virtually no help at ASUS site

My preference is to have OS on SSD and hardware based RAID 1 for the 2TB movie/media storage.

Am I missing something here? This can't be that complicated. I did this about a year and a half ago on an AMD based Win Server 2011 system (no SSD), but I don't do this much and I've forgotten how I did it.

Not really looking for a walk through, but pointing me at a good help site would be greatly appreciated. Thanx, Gino

Cant help with your specifics.. but what you trying to do is similar to what I have..
I have ASUS Mobo.. and have SSD for OS and 2 HDD in Raid0 for storage.
For me.. once set in BIOS to raid.. have to activate the RAID controller as Machine boots (for me its Ctrl I)
then I set my SSD as ourt of RAID.. the two HDD as in RAID..
Then back in BIOS I got option of which to chose as boot (I chose SSD ofc)
And job done.
Hope it points you in the right direction... Im sure the manual will give you an idea on how to do it in your specific Mobo.

And hope you have good reason for going for slow drives in Raid1... for me.. speed is king and I have slow drives and Raid1 just for backup.. but its your call :)
Cheers.

thanx yoji, have set BIOS to raid but no boot (when saved in RAID).and no other prompt point to activate raid controller. Read manual cover to cover, but no instruction on boot cut in commands. I guess i'll just try ctrl I anyway and see if it works.

The HD's are just to store and play media (movies/music), really dont need super speed for that. Apps and OS will be fast enough off the SSD, esp for a HTPC.

You should have installed Windows 7 with the BIOS SATA set to RAID. Windows "Fix it" will automatically change the registry settings.

The IRST Raid driver is the File name:
f6flpy-x64_11.2.0.1006.zip
Version: 11.2.0.1006
Date: 06/11/2012
Status: Previously released
Size: 0.32 MB

The larger 12.35 MB file is the IRST user interface.

Hi,

have you already succeed?

I had the same issue, and did this:
I setted up RAID in SATA configuration on advanced bios setup
when booting, a RAID chance for configuration passes very fast, so I pressed PAUSE in order to read
You have to CTRL-I in order to access RAID setup, so press CTRL-I twice and very fast (one for releasing pause, the other for entering the RAID menu

Once inside the menu, it's enough clear for setting up your RAID array, accordingly to the kind and number of sata disks you have attached to the motherboard

Hope it's helpfull
Best, Daniel

Were you able to get into the Intel RAID BIOS screen? I have the same mobo, and like you, when I change to RAID in the Advanced section of the Asus bios, save the changes & restart, I never get into the Intel RAID bios. Have tried typing Ctrl-I repeatedly, but nothing works.

I have about the same configuration as you, single 250 Gb Samsung SSD boot HD and two 1Tb Seagate HD's in RAID1 mirror, Asus Motherboard P8Z77 and windows7 64Bit. I think you forgot to install the Raid Driver in Windows7 with your system still working in IDE(called so in bios) mode. It cost me a lot of trouble to find this out. In the Device Manager under Storage Controllers it is called: Intel(R) ICH8R/ICH9R/ICH10R SATA RAID-controller.
