Hi. I am looking for a very reliable firewall/router for my two small retail businesses. I need to connect them together with a VPN. Can you suggest a reliable, business class router/firewall that I can use at both locations? Each location only has a few computers. WIFI isn't necessary either.

I see on the NCIX forums that the Cisco ASA 5505 is a good one to get but it's a little pricier than I was hoping. Is there a solid reliable VPN router that I can get for around 250-350?

Thank you.

I would recommend looking into the Sonicwall TZ 105. It's their cheapest model of firewall, but works perfect for small business, and has built in firewall and VPN capabilities. I found setting up a site-to-site VPN using two of these units incredibly easy and reliable. I've sold many of these units to customers, and even use one myself at my own business.

I've also worked with Cisco ASA 5505 firewalls previously and do not recommend it. First, you get all the same features in the Sonicwall at a much lower cost. Second, I was never able to get some of the most basic firewall functions to work properly (like port forwarding) and was never able to get a VPN tunnel configured either. Even after we hired a certified CISCO professional to come reconfigure them for the VPN h couldn't get it working.
