So Ijust got my brand new Sapphire Radeon 7850 1gb card from Newegg on Friday, I was needless to say stoked to put this thing it and boot up the new setup (I installed my brand new Corsair AX750 psu earlier that morning) however when I did I couldn't get it to work. It's all running on my new Dell 660 minitower desktop (not slim tower) so when I booted it up I got the dell icon on the screen as always then the screen goes black and nothing happens. I've tried everything, ran through all the bios settings, ran it back on the old card and on the integrated graphics which it works on both. For some reason as soon as I hook up that card to the power supply and start it, the computer doesn't want to work properly. I've tried uninstalling all the old drivers, reinstalling them, installing the new drivers first, it did run in safe mode, I even gave up and took it to the geek squad guys at best buy and waited for literally an hour for them to give it back and say they can't figure it out.
Someone please help! Did I get a dud 7850?? I heard such good things about this card, I've never ran radeon before as I've always been an nvidia guy but this is making me want to go back to nvidia! Any suggestions/recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Bryan S.

I'm positive I connected them correctly, regarding the beep/led codes I may have heard some but I never pay close attention to the tiny beeps it makes as it boots up. I would have to pay real close attention. Do these beep codes tell me much?

Yep. They are debug codes to know what is mailfunctioning or working..

You should hear one short beep if everything is ok.

1 long and three short are normally bad VIDEO CARD, but probably not in DELL PC.

Turn it on with new card and power it on. Check beep codes. This will tell us a lot.

Oh nice well that's definitely helpful info for the future!
But when I tried it I definitely have never heard more than one short beep even with the new card installed. :/

Do you guys think I should get a replacement card? Or select a new card altogether? The other card I was looking at was the nvidia 650ti BOOST 2GB. How does that card stack up against the Radeon 7850 1GB?

You have onboard video right?

Have you tried connecting to onboard video while having new card installed?

It may be that first initialized is onboard video. That would explain one short beep as if everything is ok.
Maybe to check bios to see how the video is set by priority.

Unfortunately I've already ran through the bios settings, it runs okay while using the integrated graphics however if I try switching to run on the new card the screen goes black...

This guy used strange method http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3515/t/19458634.aspx

He says that system did not recognized new video card until he loaded drivers for it using onboard video.

1. There is no setting in the BIOS to disable onboard video, the onboard video will continue to work after the upgrade card is installed.

2. The new card will not be recognized until the video driver is installed. I did not do this before I put the new card in, and I could not get the system to recognize the new card and the hooked-up monitors. I had to connect the monitor to the onboard video to load the driver for the new card, after that the system finally recognized the video card and was able to boot up with the dual monitors connected to the new card.

3. After the new card was installed, I disconnected one of the monitor from the new card and connected to the onboard video card, and it still worked. So I guess I have the capability to connect three monitors after this upgrade, but I can't confirm this because I have only two monitors now. I think it's a good thing that the onboard video is not disabled due to a new addon card.

As mentioned in my original post I went that route (this morning actually) with no luck, it seems like I've literally tried everything and just can't get it figured out! :(.
Is it possible that this card just isn't compatible with my motherboard??

Haha I figured it was worth a shot, maybe they'd have ideas I hadn't thought of. I called up Newegg today and spoke with them and got my rma number and everything luckily their headquarters is 20 mins from me so I can just go drop it off and not have to worry about shipping. Do you think I'd be better off with a different card or getting a replacement?

That's something I definitely haven't tried although I've not very familiar with clearing CMOS either so it does make me nervous after reading that link!

Don't be nervous. It's simple.

Unplug your power cord. Press power button for 2 seconds to discharge possible electricity leftovers. Find that jumper like i n manual.. Set it on described position.. Wait 10-15 seconds, put it back on original place and you are done.

2 minutes of work.
