Out of these two drives ONLY, which of the two is faster?

I've googled quite a bit but its like back and forth some say the intel is faster and some say Samsung is faster so I really don't know.

I am wanting to buy only one of either of these , either the 180gb Intel 520 or the 128gb Samsung 830.

Out of these two which one is truly faster for day to day stuff? Such as gaming, school work, OS booting, etc stuff like that.

Thanks!

Whichever is faster in some benchmark, I would tend to doubt you'd notice any difference in actual use. Either one will boot quickly, load programs in a flash and generally make the desktop feel snappy. I have an Intel 520 120 GB in my desktop but it's unlikely the Samsung alternative would be noticeably different.

Between the two specific models listed the 180GB Intel offers more space and comparable speed, so that would be the winner.

I would recommend the Samsung 830. When comparing SSDs for day to day purpose, the speed difference will be too little to bother with. The biggest difference is from upgrading from HDD to SSD. Between the Intel and the Samsung drive, the Samsung 830 is bit more reliable, a bit faster, and consumes less power. I would recommend the Samsung 830 if 128gb is all you need. However if you need more than that, than the Intel drive wins out.

The difference in 'speed', going from a usual HDD, is 900% improvement vs 905% improvement. You would not notice if someone were to magically switch them.

They are both good drives. Prices and needs being equal, buy the lager one.

Both are my top choices.

They are both amazing and highly reliable drives. I recommend them to all my clients.

One "gotcha" to be aware of is that the smaller the drive (i.e. 60-120GB or even 180GB) the speed will be lesser of the 240-256GB models.

Anyways you will still be blown away by the snappy feel of an SSD.
