My fan on the power supply has stopped, so I bought a Lepa N500 PSU.
The new PSU's cpu power cable has 8 pins and does not split into 2 pieces.

Is it safe to use this 8 pin connector ,from the PSU, on my 4 pin cpu power connection on the motherboard?

I can get it to fit on the 4 pin connection.

Also, do I need to pull out the graphics card and memory before I try and boot up?

i just tried to boot up the computer i put the new PSU on,
and it won't start, actually the only thing that happens is the light on the power button is yellow
instead of blue if the computer were on, so no fans no nothing at the moment.

This is a Dell Inspiron 530, and it seems everything is plugged in correctly.

oh major!!! maybe the 8 pin cable you are holding is pci-ex power supply not a mobo supply. can you confirm this?

also
did you place correctly the 24 psu cable?
you may also try to unplug the 8 pin connector and try to boot, report if anything changes.

tell me the wire colors of that 8 pin cable.

ok the 8 pin connector for the cpu power is a break-away(2-4pins) with black and yellow wires,
and i tried again but no boot,

i also tried removing the mobo battery, ram, and video card for several minutes, then putting it back in, and still only the yellow light on the power button, and computer does not start or power on,

i work practically 7 days a week, its tough to work on this some nights,

i read somewhere that i may only be able to use a dell psu, since this is a dell computer,
(Dell Inspiron 530 Qaud Core Duo)
can anyone confirm that this is possible,
my psu is
liteon model # ps 6351-2

the psu i bought that i can't get to work is,
Lepa N500-SA
