I have the Noctua NH-D14, i5 3570k, asrock z77 extreme4, 600w PSU, AMD Radeon 7970 Ghz edition.

Before when I was at stock clock for my CPU, under prime95 the hottest core would stay at 50c

Now I overclocked to 4.2Ghz and I just added 0.005+V or whatever, and now under prime95 I get 60c-65c, is this good? Or should I be expecting more from this cooler? like 55c

More about : cpu good temps

Yes, it's fine.

Hm, it's a bit hotter than it should be with the D14.

How did you applied thermal paste? You should put a pea-sized amount in center of CPU. Does your case have good airflow?

It's in safe zone though. Try to go negative offset too, under-volt it, and check for stability.

Actually, I got it assembled but I have no idea, the ammount of thermal paste left is still half in the tube, and yes good air flow.

You used half a tube? You should use just a pea-sized in middle, to much thermal paste can have negative effects.

Well I don't know, it was assembled and I paid an extra $35 for them to install an aftermarket cooler, so I'm assuming they knew what they were doing. But what temps should I be expecting? By the way when I received my PC the D14 was slightly bent to the left, but it didn't bother me much. So what temps should I be achieving and do you suggest me re seating it myself?

The temperatures are certainly safe, a bit higher than they should be for 4.2ghz only. Always assemble the stuff yourself.

I recommend you read this too: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/333968-28-thermal-pas...

I would recommend the pea-size over line though, always turned out best for me this way.

I'd say it's fine, so just monitor temps over time, make sure it does not exceed 70c.

If you don't mind me asking, who did you pay to do this?

I paid pccasegear.com, the reason I believe it was slightly bent was because of the expandable foam and it pushed towards it side ways. But as I said, what do you think I should be getting in terms of temps on this clock? Do you suggest I re apply thermal paste and re seat it?

Well there isn't really a problem, though there are many factors to your temperature. If there isn't a problem, don't touch it! You can create more problems yourself.

You're fine unless it starts getting hotter randomly. Ivy-Bridge runs pretty hot anyway, just monitor temperatures over time.

I don't let any of my PCs run over 60c typically though.

Ok well, I just overclocked again, to 4.40 and ran prime 95 for a bit and went from 63-67c, but i didnt change any voltage still just 0.0005+v or 0.005+ whatever it is, and when I started up theres heaps of lines accross my screen now when I startup?

Heaps of lines on starting the PC? Why are you overclocking higher now? Don't screw with the voltages, leave it on auto if need be, setting voltage wrong could fry your CPU.

Ok well, now I went back down to 4.2 and put the voltage to -0.005 and on prime 95 i get 58-62c

That looks much better, you could try to lower it even more(small increments), but you need to make sure it's stable lower the voltage.

I have a question now, my distance to TJ Max is 79, whilst at the 4.2 overclock, is that good or bad?
