Minimized windows render slowly when restoring

When I have a Windows Explorer window minimized to the Taskbar for a moderate period of time (~7 minutes) the restoration of said window takes visible time to render, similar to a web page loading.

First just the frame appears and slowly it is populated with the appropriate icons, files, folders, etc, all told it takes around 3 seconds to load. I'm wondering what could be the cause of this as the laptop I'm running has a good 4GB of RAM and 512MB of dedicated vRAM with a core duo processor @ 2.2ghz. The system is usually idling only web browsing, some documents/music and a handful of utilities running.

Would appreciate any speculation.

My HDD is a 5 year-old Seagate 2.5", 7500RPM with 200GB cap. My OS(Vista SP2) install is about 2.5 years-old, never any viruses but I do have a diverse software library. ;) I have around 160 programs + patches installed according to the Windows CP.
