I have a Geforce GTX 550 ti and although I'm happy with it, I have extra money to upgrade it. the card is SLI ready. Should I get another 550 ti or get a radeon 7850?

Solution
You will likely have a better experience with the 7850 then with dual 550 ti's for the reasons geofelt mentioned.

However, I will suggest that 'because I have some money' is a poor reason to upgrade your card. If it can run everything you want it to right now, there is no reason to upgrade. Save the money, and then in 6 months or a year when a new game comes out that you decide you need a better card for, the 7850 will be that much cheaper, or there will be a new, more powerful, card for you to buy at the same price.
I would always prefer a good single card when it will do the job.

Dual cards do not always render their half of the display in sync, causing microstuttering. It is an annoying effect.
The benefit of higher benchmark fps can be offset, particularly with lower tier cards.

dual card support is dependent on the driver. Not all games can benefit from dual cards.

You need a stronger psu to support to cards and a cf/sli capable motherboard.

That's what my friend told me. To wait for this year's games to come out and see how well my GPU can handle them. Either way, I will stick to all of your advice and stick with the 7850. Thanks for the input
